What is a t-shirt bra, what makes them so popular and what do they do? Read on to find out!
What is a t-shirt bra?
T-shirt bras are seamless bras, often with a thin foam lining in the cups (although non-padded t-shirt bras exist too!), and are usually quite plain and simply designed.
The cups of a t-shirt bra are ‘moulded’, this means they are formed around a pre-made mould and usually heat-pressed into a permanent shape, and are often available in both plunge and balconette styles.
What does a t-shirt bra do?
The purpose of a t-shirt bra is to give a smooth, seamless fit under clothes – like fitted t-shirts – so that the lines of your bra can’t be seen through the fabric.
T-shirt bras give a neater appearance under outfits and are therefore a popular choice to wear under things like school uniforms and smart blouses.

We find that t-shirt bras often work best for those with firmer breast tissue, and we also recommend them to those with asymmetrical breasts as the rigid cup will help disguise the size difference under clothing. Because they’re seamless, t-shirt bras are also great options for those who have very sensitive skin that is irritated by the seams inside bra cups.
Because the cups of a t-shirt bra are pre-formed around a specific mould, this does unfortunately mean that they’re not always suitable for every breast shape, and can be a little trickier to find the perfect fit in.
If your breast shape doesn’t match with the one that has been used for the mould, don’t be totally discouraged! Different brands have variations in the way they fit, so try out a few different ones and see if they work better.
