Why...
does my bra back band ride up?

Your bra band riding up your back can be uncomfortable and frustrating, so it’s important to know why this happens and how you can fix it.

If you’re wondering why your bra band rides up, and want to know what to do to stop having to pull your bra back down, read on to find out!

Why does my bra back band ride up?

Why is my bra riding up my back?

The only reason your bra band rides up is because it’s too big for you! Your back band is what offers 80% of the support in a bra, so this needs to be nice and firm around your ribs. If it’s riding up, then it’s not sitting firm enough to do its job.

If your bra is older than 6-12 months, then it might just be that the band is now too stretched out and has lost its shape, which is causing it to ride up your back. We recommend having a new bra fitting every 6 months or so.

If your bra is new and still rides up your back, then it’s definitely time for a size check! You can take our quick bra fit quiz here to find out if you need to go down a back size.

How do I stop my bra from riding up my back?

The best way to stop your bra riding up your back is to simply go down a back size or two, and stop over-tightening your shoulder straps!

Your straps should only sit at a two-finger tension, enough to keep the cups in place but not put strain on your shoulders. Remember when you go down in the back, you need to go up in the cup to keep the same volume – check out our guide to bra sister sizes for more info on that.

How does a smaller back band stop my bra from riding up?

Your bra’s back band works by anchoring to your body and giving your bra a secure grip to lift from below. By reducing the size of the bra’s band, it will sit firmer around your ribs and is more likely to stay in place throughout the day, meaning you get that all-important support to take the weight off your shoulders!

We hope this helps to explain why your bra band rides up, and gives you the information you need to stop it from happening to you in the future!
